Competition Rules
General Rules
- All livestock must be handled in a manner in keeping with good ranch practices.
- Attire: cowboy hat or safety headgear, long sleeve shirt, jeans, heeled cowboy boots.
- A Judge’s decision is final. Arguing with a Judge will result in disqualification.
- Dog Policy: No dogs are permitted on the grounds during the Ranch Roundup. The Trail & Saddle Club is a horse facility, and the safety of horse and rider is our first priority. Thank you for your cooperation.
- Helmet Policy: All riders under the age of 18 must wear a helmet while mounted.
Entry Rules
- Entries will be accepted on a first-come first-serve basis.
- No same-day registrations. You must be pre-entered in at least one class to add on show days.
- In team events, a participant may enter a total of 3 times, as long as each team is different.
- In team events, any slots still marked TBD 24 hrs prior to the class will be filled by lottery from existing draw.
- In Ranch Cutting, Trail Challenge, Ranch Reining, Ranch Riding, Ranch Horse and Buckaroo, one person may enter twice, but each go must be on a different horse. Each go will qualify for placed awards, but only one score can be counted toward High Point.
- For the Open Division, professional competitors are defined as those have shown, judged, trained or assisted in training a horse for remuneration, monetary or otherwise, either directly or indirectly, or received remuneration for instructing another person in riding, driving, training or showing a horse any of the four calendar years previous.
- Once a class starts, entries are closed.
- Age of Youth entrants 17 and under is as of January 1.
- Combined age of participants for Century Roping is as of January 1.
- All late entries will be charged a one-time office fee of $20.
- All late entries will go first in the draw, except Ranch Cutting and Ranch Sorting, in which late entries go last.
Roping Rules
- WALK-TROT ONLY. Time penalties to be added at Judge’s discretion for breaking this rule.
- Legal head shot may include a figure eight or one front leg.
- Ground crew does not have to pay an entry fee, except in the Four-Man Calf Branding.
- All ground crews must sign liability waivers.
- See the Equipment fold-out below for tack restrictions.

- Martingales of any kind
- Mechanical hackamores
The following classes follow AQHA equipment rules:

Additional Old-Style Reata Roping Requirements:
- Competitor MUST use a reata
- Horses to be in hackamore, 2 rein or straight-up in the bridle
- Romals are required
- Your saddle horn must be covered in LEATHER or MULEHIDE

Paybacks are in addition to any awards and will be as follows:
- First 50%
- Second 30%
- Third 20%
Paybacks will be made by check and mailed within ten days of the event.
High Point / Open Champion
There will be three High Point awards and two Open Division awards:
- Men’s (18 years & over)
- Women’s (18 years & over)
- Youth (17 years & under)
All classes, except Open Division, contribute to High-Point:

High Point and Open Champion scoring in qualifying classes will be as follows. Note that if there are fewer than ten entries in a class, the points given are limited to the number of entries (for instance if 6 in a class, first place gets 6 points, second place 5 points, etc):
- 1st place 10 points
- 2nd place 9 points
- 3rd place 8 points
- 4th place 7 points
- 5th place 6 points
- 6th place 5 points
- 7th place 4 points
- 8th place 3 points
- 9th place 2 points
- 10th place 1 point
Note:
- Any points earned by Youth riders are tracked separately to contribute to High Point.
- If rider enters more than once in a class, they can count points only for the highest placing.
- High Point winners must place 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th in at least two events.
- Point scoring is limited to the number of entries in a particular class.
- Ties will be broken by flipping a coin.
Refund Policy
- ALL REFUND AMOUNTS WILL BE LESS A 3% CREDIT CARD TRANSACTION FEE.
- Full refunds will be issued only if the participant scratches a class ten or more days prior to the event
- 50% refunds will be issued for scratches made 1-9 days prior to the event.
- There will be no refunds for scratches made on the day of the event.
